Tour Plan

Upon arrival at Asmara International Airport, you will be welcomed, assisted with one of our experienced guides and transferred to your hotel.

After a brief rest and having breakfast, go exploring the capital Asmara, inscribed on the UNESCO heritage list in recognition of its eclectic modernist and Art Deco architecture. Named the world’s 4th best comeback city and Africa’s best city, Asmara serves as the perfect starting point for your journey before heading to the breathtaking Dahlak Islands in the Red Sea.

Some of the wonders not to miss include the Fiat Tagliero building, the Ministry of Education Head Office (Benito's old party headquarter), the fabulously detailed Cinema Asmara (old Opera house), the Main Post Office, the Roman Cathedral, the Grand Mosque, St. Mary’s Orthodox Church, the colorful market squares (spice, vegetable, fruit, souvenir) including the Medeber Market (a famous recycling depot), the Tank graveyard and more.

After exploring Asmara’s rich history and architecture, get ready for an unforgettable journey to the Dahlak Islands, a breathtaking archipelago in the Red Sea, known for its pristine beaches, vibrant coral reefs and abundant marine life.

Early Morning – Start of the Dahlak Trip

Our Dahlak trip begins with a scenic drive from Asmara to Massawa. The journey takes you down winding roads with breathtaking views, cool air and sometimes mist that creates a magical atmosphere. You will descend from 2,300 meters above sea level to the coast.

This route is famous for offering "three seasons in two hours" because of the dramatic change in landscapes and climates during the drive. The journey ends at the beautiful Dahlak Islands, where you can enjoy clear blue waters, white sandy beaches and amazing marine life.

Exploring Massawa – The Pearl of the Red Sea

After arriving in Massawa, take some time to relax before exploring the city, known as the "Pearl of the Red Sea" and the "City of Islands." For centuries, Massawa has been an important trading port and a gateway to the Dahlak Archipelago.

Massawa is a unique city with Turkish-style buildings, lively markets, ancient mosques and delicious seafood. You can also visit Gurgsum beach, a perfect spot for swimming and relaxing by the sea.

Some of the top places to see in Massawa include:

  • Northern Red Sea Regional Museum
  • Tiwalet Causeway
  • Shafi Mosque (one of Africa’s oldest mosques)
  • Imperial Palace
  • Tank Monument (a historic site from the Fenkel Operation)

Take an exciting boat trip from Massawa to the Dissie and Madote Islands, part of the Dahlak Archipelago. These islands, located 22 miles and 17 miles south of Massawa, are among the most popular in the Dahlak area.

Enjoy beautiful beaches, coral reefs and a variety of sea life. You might spot dolphins, sea turtles, lionfish and other colorful fish while snorkeling or diving. Both islands are perfect for swimming, camping and exploring nature.

The Dahlak Islands are a true paradise, offering peace, adventure and breathtaking scenery in the heart of the Red Sea.

Exciting boat trip from Dissie and Madote Islands to Islands of Durgam and Durgella

Durgham and Durgella Islands are part and parcel of the Dahlak Archipelago, lying some 19 miles and 21 miles off the coast of Massawa respectively. These islands boast white sandy beaches, beautiful corals and sea life such as Dolphins, Mantas and sea turtles. There is also a chance of seeing big sea turtles. Both are excellent for diving, snorkeling and camping offering an unforgettable experience in the breathtaking Dahlak Archipelago.

Boat trip from Durgham and Durgella Islands to Enteara island.

Enteara Island, part of the stunning Dahlak Archipelago, lies 27 miles east off the coast of Massawa and is an excellent spot for snorkeling and diving. The island’s clear waters and rich marine life make it great for exploring underwater. There is also a strong chance of spotting sea turtles while night diving in the pristine waters of the Dahlak Islands.

Boat trip back from Enteara Island to Massawa

After a brief rest, go visit the remaining city tour of Massawa, what is left from day 2.

Visit the colourful Rashaida ethnic group located in the environs of Massawa. The Rashaida are expert livestock and camel rearers, traders along the Red Sea coast. The magnificent Rashaida women are known for their black and red geometrically patterned dresses, their long and heavy – burga – elaborately embroidered with silver threads, beads and sometimes seed pearls. A visit to this vibrant community offers a unique cultural experience before venturing into the breathtaking Dahlak Islands.

Late in the afternoon, travel back uphill from Massawa to Asmara.

After an unforgettable journey exploring Asmara, Massawa and the breathtaking Dahlak Archipelago, transfer to the airport as per your flight schedule for departure, taking with you incredible memories of the Dahlak Islands and the rich cultural and natural beauty of Eritrea.
